Lifetime opportunity

My travel tale about my fascinating expedition in Peru can be read in the Sept/Oct issue of the Writers and Readers’ magazine. I had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit Machu Picchu with members of the Punahou Alumni Association. Punahou School also counts Hiram Bingham III as an alumus, and he is credited with discovering Machu Picchu in 1911. Following in our illustrious alumni’s footsteps was a very special experience and I was able to see many important archeological sites in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Peruvian food is second to none, and Lima is considered the culinary capital of South America. I enjoyed the fascinating variety of potatoes and corn, along with delicious fresh fish and rainforest fruits.
My essay is entitled “ohana”, which is the Hawaiian word for family. I felt this sense of closeness not only with the other members of my alumni association, but also from the warm hospitality of the local residents. Check it all out right here!
